چکیده
The infrared astronomy group of Department Astronomy and Astrophysics at Tata Institute Fundamental Research has been pursuing astronomical instrumentation activities since its inception. routinely involved in balloon-borne programs from the field station Hyderabad with indigenously developed payloads. Ground-based began a single element detector. Later, over time, larger format array detectors are being used cameras. These cameras have observatories across India. Recently, also laboratory model Infrared Spectroscopic Imaging Survey payload, targeted for small satellite mission Indian Space Organisation, which will carry out spectroscopic measurements wavelength range 1.7 to 6.4 $\mu$m seamlessly

High Energy Astronomy from the Ground
High Energy Astrophysics (HEA) is a modern interdisciplinary research field at the interface of astronomy, physics and cosmology, with the major objective to study extraterrestrial phenomena in their most energetic and extreme forms. HEA addresses a diversity of observational and theoretical topics related to the nonthermal Universe acceleration, propagation and radiation of relativistic partic...
متن کامل8.24 Lidar to Support Ground-Based Astronomy
1. RESEARCH INSTRUMENTATION AND NEEDS Astronomers using ground-based telescopes are necessarily engaged in negating the effects of the earth’s atmosphere, which acts as a wavelength dependent, spatially and temporally non-stationary refractive optical element in any ground based telescope system. Almost all of the extinction of starlight due to aerosols happens in the troposphere. These troposp...

This brief paper introduces and reviews the 'visions of the future' articles prepared by leading young scientists throughout the world for the first of two Christmas 2008 Triennial issues of Phil. Trans. R. Soc. A, devoted, respectively, to astronomy and Earth science. Contributions in astronomy include the very topical gamma-ray bursts, new ideas on stellar collapse and the unusual atmospheres...
متن کامل1 . 5 Lidar System to Support Ground - Based Astronomy
All ground-based astronomical observational data include effects of the Earth’s atmosphere, which is a wavelength dependent, spatially and temporally non-stationary optical medium. The atmosphere creates two different physical types of observational effects: it absorbs and scatters light in a wavelength dependent manner, and it blurs images by turbulence-induced refractive wave front perturbati...
متن کاملPrecision engineering for astronomy: historical origins and the future revolution in ground-based astronomy.
Since the dawn of civilization, the human race has pushed technology to the limit to study the heavens in ever-increasing detail. As astronomical instruments have evolved from those built by Tycho Brahe in the sixteenth century, through Galileo and Newton in the seventeenth, to the present day, astronomers have made ever more precise measurements. To do this, they have pushed the art and scienc...
